Julia Lopez MP is running a campaign to save Harold Hill Post Office from closure in her constituency. As part of her campaign, Julia ran a petition to show the widespread support that the branch has among local residents and businesses in Harold Hill.
Background
In early November 2024, the Post Office announced that their directly managed Harold Hill branch was part of 115 branches across the country at risk of closure.
The Post Office announced that of the 115 branches at risk of closure, some would go to Postmasters, others would go to retail partners and the rest would be closed.
Mrs Lopez wrote to the Post Office in the wake of the news, raising concerns that this would hit Harold Hill particularly hard due to the area’s higher use of cash. This coupled with fewer public transport connections would leave many in the community struggling to easily access cash.
Whilst Mrs Lopez explores alternative options with the Post Office to help retain the branch, she ran a petition to show support among residents and businesses for keeping it.
The Post Office are currently consulting with staff and trade unions as part of their process to offload their 115 DMBs.
Julia presented her petition to the Post Office in February.
A decision on the future of the branches (including the Harold Hill Branch) is expected at the end of March 2025.
