Yesterday, Julia asked the Home Secretary whether the Government would commit to not joining the EU Pact on Migration & Asylum next year.
Julia commented:
Yesterday, I gave the Home Secretary the chance to rule out the UK joining the EU Pact on Migration & Asylum next year. She didn't take it. Instead I got another Yvette waffle bomb. The Labour benches were full of self-congratulation on the UK-French deal to stop small boat crossings. I hope to God it works. But the reality is it's a small pilot, with no detail on the price and the numbers being returned. If the cost ends up being large asylum transfers from the continent - with so few taken back that there's no deterrent to crossing - I say it's a price not worth paying. But Labour have their headline I guess...another bit of smoke and mirrors to disguise small boat crossings being up 40% on last year.
