Julia Lopez, the Member of Parliament for Hornchurch & Upminster, has received an update about the partial reopening of Gallows Corner. Below is what she posted to her Facebook page:
I have just received an update from TfL and wanted to share it with residents immediately. There is now a plan in place to partially reopen parts of the road network including the new flyover itself. I paste below the update in full. Let's all collectively cross our fingers...
UPDATE EMAIL
Further to my update on Friday, I am writing to provide you with a further update regarding the work we – and Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW) – are carrying out in the Gallows Corner area.
As I advised last week, we have been urgently working on a plan to partially reopen parts of the road network while ESW work to repair a leak identified during the final testing of the newly installed water main. Having completed extensive technical and safety assurance checks, and subject to remaining preparations going as planned, we expect to reopen some sections of the road network to general traffic from the morning of Sunday 10 May. This would involve reopening the flyover eastbound, allowing traffic to flow between the A12 and A127 eastbound. Straight Road and Main Road would also fully reopen. The flyover will remain closed westbound, and the A12 southbound will remain bus only in order to allow water main works to continue safely and to help manage traffic in the area. We will be continuing to work with Havering council on this, including responding quickly to concerns about congestion once the changes have taken effect.
These changes would mean the following journeys could be made through the area from Sunday 10 May:
Eastbound flyover open from A12 Eastern Avenue East to A127 Southend Arterial Road
Roundabout to A12 Colchester Road (eastbound only)
Straight Road (both directions) and roundabout
Main Road (both directions) and roundabout
The following routes will remain closed to general traffic and diversions remain in place:
No access to westbound flyover
No access from A12 Eastern Avenue East eastbound onto roundabout
No access from roundabout onto A12 Eastern Avenue East westbound
No access from A12 Colchester Road to roundabout
No access from roundabout onto A127 Southend Arterial Road eastbound
We are producing a map showing the partial reopening and will share a link to this when available. We will also be updating our website and other customer information channels, and will be emailing impacted customers with a registered account.
ESW and TfL continue to work in close partnership and are focused on completing the remaining work and fully reopening the road network as soon as possible. We will provide a timeframe for this as soon as we can. We recognise how deeply frustrating this situation continues to be for local residents, businesses and road users, particularly following earlier delays. We are very sorry for the ongoing disruption and remain focused on progressing this complex and technically challenging work as quickly and safely as possible, while protecting vital water supplies.
