Julia Lopez MP has welcomed confirmation from Transport for London that the entire Gallows Corner junction is planned to reopen to general traffic by the end of September 2026.
The reopening will include the roundabout and the flyover in both directions, with all diversions and traffic management due to be removed.
TfL has confirmed the timetable after Essex & Suffolk Water completed its complex work to divert and replace a strategic water main and several distribution mains beneath the junction.
The water company completed the final testing, cleaning and commissioning of the new main last week and has now handed the site back to TfL.
TfL and its contractor, Costain, must now complete the final reinstatement and resurfacing of the area affected by the water works. This final phase will require one full weekend closure and two overnight closures, with further details due to be provided to residents and businesses.
The completion of the project will also allow the existing speed and weight restrictions on the flyover to be removed, enabling larger vehicles to use it again.
The flyover partially reopened in May 2026 following major strengthening work. Originally constructed in the 1970s as a temporary structure, the renewal work is intended to ensure it can continue operating safely for years to come.

“TfL’s confirmation that Gallows Corner is planned to reopen fully by the end of September is welcome and will finally give residents, businesses and motorists a clear end point after months of disruption.
“Essex & Suffolk Water has now completed its work and handed the site back, so responsibility for delivering the final reinstatement and resurfacing rests firmly with TfL and Costain.
“I will continue pressing TfL to keep to this timetable, give residents and businesses proper notice of the remaining closures and ensure there are no further unnecessary delays.
“Local people have endured disruption at this junction for far too long. TfL must now finish the job and get Gallows Corner fully reopened.”
