Julia Lopez MP has received a further update from Transport for London on the ongoing works at Gallows Corner.
Essex & Suffolk Water has told TfL that the complex repair work is expected to be completed in the coming days, in line with the revised timetable discussed during the stakeholder site visit on 3 July.
Testing and commissioning of the repaired water main is due to begin next week. Essex & Suffolk Water expects to hand the site back to TfL at the end of August, after which TfL will need to complete its final reinstatement and resurfacing works before the road network can fully reopen.
From next week, Essex & Suffolk Water will also begin removing plant and materials from its working area. However, excavations on Southend Arterial Road and Eastern Avenue will remain open throughout August so that the final connections can be made following testing.
Julia said:
“Residents and businesses will cautiously welcome the news that the complex repair work is nearing completion and that testing is due to begin shortly.
“However, the end of August handover will not mean the immediate reopening of the road network, as TfL must still complete its reinstatement and resurfacing works. There is still no firm date for full reopening.
“After so much disruption and so many missed deadlines, local people will want to see certainty in the coming weeks. I will continue pressing TfL to set out a clear timetable for its remaining works and to restore full access as quickly and safely as possible.”
TfL has said that it will provide a further update next week.
