Earlier this week Julia called out the Prime Minister's Youth Mobility Scheme which he set out following his UK-EU negotiations.
Julia commented:
This week, Keir Starmer announced the outlines of a deal he has made with the EU. It includes a new migration route - now being dubbed a 'youth experience scheme' with a cap. It sounds benign. But we're not talking about a few 18 year olds going on a German exchange here. One of his Ministers even tried to compare it to the UK’s tiny deal with Uruguay — just 500 visas. That’s completely misleading. The PM won't say what the cap will be but we now know that the EU wants it to be hundreds of thousands of 18 to 35 year-olds from across the continent. Around 60 million people would be eligible. And he hasn't ruled out in parliament that those coming can have no dependents, no benefits and no exemption from the NHS surcharge.
