Hornchurch & Upminster MP Backs Funding Bid for Langtons Gardens Refurbishment.
In a bid to preserve a cherished Hornchurch cultural landmark, Julia Lopez MP has expressed her strong support for a funding application submitted by Havering Council and the Friends of Langtons Estate to the Veolia Environmental Trust. The application seeks essential funds for the refurbishment of the rare 18th-century bathhouse located within Langtons Gardens.
Langtons Gardens, designed by the renowned landscape gardener Humphry Repton, is a vital part of Havering's heritage. The bathhouse, a unique feature of the estate, has suffered from deterioration over the years, and is now in urgent need of repair and restoration work.
Mrs Lopez highlighted the importance of the restoration, stating,
"The proposed refurbishment works will not only preserve this important cultural landmark but also ensure that it remains in good condition for future generations to enjoy.
“By restoring the bathhouse, we will be safeguarding a piece of our local history and providing a valuable resource for the local community.
"The refurbishment of the Langtons bathhouse is not just about preserving a building but also increasing its accessibility by the public."
During a visit to Langtons last year, Julia met members of the Friends Group and the Council’s Parks Team, who demonstrated their dedication to preserving this unique part of Havering's heritage.
Their passion for the project was evident, and Mrs Lopez is confident that, with the support of the Veolia Environmental Trust, the bathhouse can be restored to its former glory.
The refurbishment of the Langtons bathhouse is seen as a crucial step in maintaining the overall condition of the estate, ensuring it remains open and accessible to local residents and visitors alike for many years to come.
The news of Mrs Lopez backing the application comes as part of her wider efforts to support local cultural and heritage sites in the constituency. Among her recent work in the area, Mrs Lopez has been supporting the restoration of Upminster Tithe Barn – with works due to finish in the coming weeks.
