Julia Lopez MP has continued to press the Government over its decision not to proceed with funding for step free works at Upminster Station.
Mrs Lopez has written again to Rail Minister Lord Hendy to follow up on her previous representations asking for a meeting and to make clear that local concern about access at the station remains strong.
Upminster is an important interchange, connecting the District line wider rail services and the Liberty line. While much of the station is accessible, Platform 6 remains a notable gap, with access still limited by stairs.
Mrs Lopez has argued that this continues to create real difficulties for passengers who rely on accessible public transport, including those with mobility needs, parents with prams and older residents.
Commenting, Julia said:
“I remain very disappointed that the Government has decided not to proceed with funding for step free works at Upminster Station.
“Platform 6 remains a clear gap in accessibility at a major interchange, and local residents have every right to expect better.
“I have followed up again with the Minister because this issue has not gone away. I will keep pressing the Government to think again and to support the improvements needed.”
Mrs Lopez has said she will continue to press for progress on the issue and for a response from Ministers on how accessibility at Upminster can be improved.
