Julia Lopez MP has written to Transport for London (TfL) and Essex & Suffolk Water calling for urgent clarity on the extent to which the Gallows Corner works will run beyond the original September deadline.
The announcement comes after weeks of assurances that the project remained on schedule. TfL has now confirmed that both the flyover refurbishment and water main replacement will continue into October after “unforeseeable problems” were discovered around the water main.
In her letter to Essex & Suffolk Water, Julia pressed the company to explain how long the delay will be, what additional resources are being deployed to resolve the issues.
Julia said:
“Residents have endured months of disruption at Gallows Corner as the important and necessary flyover replacement works have taken place. They will understandably be extremely frustrated by news of these delays, particularly with the school holidays ending soon ending and costs to businesses adding up.
They deserve a clear and honest update on how long these works will now take and what steps are being taken to minimise further inconvenience. I have asked Essex & Suffolk Water to set out exactly what has gone wrong, how they are addressing it and whether more resources are being mobilised to speed up the job.”
Mrs Lopez has also asked TfL to confirm the extent of the revised schedule and to keep the public fully informed throughout the process.
Local roads have been under significant pressure since the closure began in June, with heavy congestion expected to worsen as schools return.
Julia will continue to monitor the situation closely and press both organisations for accountability and transparency.
