Julia Lopez MP has met the new Leader of Havering Council, Cllr Keith Prince, to discuss how they will work together on issues affecting residents across Hornchurch & Upminster.
The meeting covered a range of local issues over which Havering Council has control including the quality of local services, council planning issues and the need to retain community facilities, particularly at the Harold Wood library site. They also discussed the ongoing challenge of securing the right grant from central government to reflect the borough’s need.
Mrs Lopez raised the importance of getting a proper grip on Havering’s financial position, particularly given this week's poor CQC report into adult social care – an issue that residents raise often in casework with Mrs Lopez’s office.
The meeting also touched on ongoing local priorities including Gallows Corner, the future of local community assets and the importance of building Havering’s business base to support long term growth.
Mrs Lopez said:
“I was pleased to meet Cllr Prince to discuss the new administration’s priorities and to make clear that I want to work with the Council wherever we can make progress for residents. We are used to working together as local Member of Parliament and local London Assembly Member and trust that relationship will continue to be constructive”
