Julia Lopez MP has received responses from both Morrisons and the Post Office regarding the upcoming closure of the Camborne Avenue Post Office branch in Harold Hill. The responses follow her letters last week raising concerns about the closure to both organisations.
Morrisons has confirmed that its Morrisons Daily store on Camborne Avenue will close permanently on Friday 12 September 2025, with the in-store Post Office facility closing slightly earlier on Tuesday 9 September 2025. The company explained that despite investment in the site since taking over McColl’s in 2022, the store has continued to make a loss and is not commercially viable.
Following this update, the Post Office has confirmed that the closure of the store will leave no option but to close the associated Post Office branch as well. In its response, the Post Office stated that nearby alternatives are available at Harold Hill, Petersfield Avenue and Harold Wood branches.
The Post Office also informed Julia that early discussions have already begun with local retailers on Camborne Avenue to gauge interest in taking on a new Post Office facility.
Julia said:
"The confirmed closure of Camborne Avenue’s Post Office is worrying for many residents in Harold Hill who depend on having local access to services. I will continue to stay in touch with the Post Office about the upcoming closures to maintain a level of service and am especially glad in the circumstances that we have been able to keep open the Farnham Road branch."
The Post Office has apologised to customers for the disruption and says it is working to limit the impact on service access in the area.
