Julia Lopez has urged local sports clubs to bid for funding from the Cash4Clubs Fund run by Flutter UKI. Grants of up to £2000 are available for up to 200 community sports clubs across the country.

The Member of Parliament has pledged to formally support bids made by sports clubs within the Hornchurch & Upminster constituency as part of her wider campaign to improve sports and leisure in Havering.

The grants can be used by clubs to fund improvements to facilities, purchase new equipment and expand participation in sport in their local area.

Of the 200 clubs to be awarded funding last year, 85% were able to deliver more activities for local people within their area, with 9,000 more people engaging with sport as a result of the funding.

Julia Lopez said:

“If you run a sports club in the constituency or know a club which would benefit and would like to apply, get in touch with me and I’d be happy to write a letter in support of your bid.

“Supporting grassroots sports here in Hornchurch & Upminster is incredibly important and we want as many local people to benefit from everything which sport has to offer.

“The last Conservative Government aimed to get one million more young people active by 2030 so it’s important we continue to promote great initiatives such as these.”

The previous Conservative government recognised the importance of sport as part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle and launched the Get Active strategy which aimed to get 2.5 million more adults and 1 million more children active by 2030. It backed up that ambition with a range of investments in grassroots sport and Havering benefitted from that strategy in several ways:

  • £841,000 to support swimming at the Central Park Leisure Centre via the Swimming Pool Fund, alongside separate support for other pools in the borough.
  • £390,000 to improve tennis courts in Havering, jointly provided by DCMS and the Lawn Tennis Association.
  • £30,000 in investments via the Multi-Sport Grassroots Fund.

The campaign forms part of Mrs Lopez’s wider six-point plan to make the Hornchurch & Upminster constituency an amazing place to live, work and raise a family.
