Julia Lopez MP has shared the latest update from Transport for London (TfL) on the continuing works at Gallows Corner.
The central section of the repaired water main has successfully passed its pressure test. TfL describes this as a significant milestone, following complex work by specialist teams operating inside the pipe.
A crane has also been supporting the installation of the S-bend section of pipe close to the roundabout. This area is now being backfilled ahead of pressure testing, with the crane expected to leave the site next week.
Work is continuing on the syphon section beneath the sewer pipework near Eastern Avenue. A new part has been manufactured off-site and is due to be installed next week.
Essex & Suffolk Water currently expects to complete its work and hand the site back to TfL by the end of August. TfL will then need to carry out final reinstatement and resurfacing before the road network can fully reopen. A date for the full reopening has not yet been confirmed.
Traffic management measures, including cones and barriers, will remain in place. TfL says requests to amend or reduce these measures have been considered, but no safe or practical opportunities have been identified within the constraints of the site.
TfL has apologised for the continuing inconvenience and says it is working closely with Essex & Suffolk Water to complete the remaining work as quickly and safely as possible. A further update is expected next week.
