This morning I visited Radfield Home Care Havering at their Hornchurch offices to learn about their business and congratulate them for winning FSB London Family Business of the Year award.
Cousins Jennie and Lisa set up Radfield in memory of their Nan ‘Nanny Fish’ who was an inspirational woman and was able to live happily at home with dementia with the support of her amazing family. Radfield Home Care Havering provides the highest quality care in the home and specialises in elderly care. They support a number of people living with dementia and are passionate about helping people live well no matter what and be actively involved in the community. Jennie and Lisa grew up together in Havering and they have always been part of a close family. They have built their business up in a way that has truly kept to their key value ‘we are a family’. Lisa’s mum, Chrissy, is one of their carers and she goes out to visit clients and also does their hairdressing. Karen, Jennie’s mum is in charge of all the book keeping and accounts which she does tirelessly every month. Aunty Den has also recently joined the office team, to help with some administration.
It was a joy to talk to Jennie and Lisa about their journey into small business from successful careers in the banking and retail sectors, and to hear how they want to expand the business and change how we look at the care of people as they grow older. Jennie acts as carer to Upminster D Day veteran, Ron Wilson, and took him to Normandy last week so that he could attend the D Day commemorations.
