I have been contacted this week by the Royal Mail and Post Office about new postal services coming to the constituency.
First, the Cambourne Avenue Post Office proposed for Harold Hill.
This Post Office will be situated within the McColls Store, 1 Camborne Ave, Harold Hill, Romford, Essex, RM3 8RH from Friday 28 June. The service will be one of the Post Office's local style branches with a low-screened, open-plan Post Office service point carefully integrated into the retail counter. Customers will be able to carry out a wide range of Post Office transactions alongside retail purchases. The new service will offer long opening hours, with the Post Office opening hours in line with the retail business.

Second, Royal Mail is introducing the first ever parcel postboxes across the UK following a successful trial. 1400 parcel postboxes will be rolled out in total, marking the first major change in postbox usage in the Royal Mail's 160 year history. The parcel postboxes will enable small businesses and marketplace sellers in the constituency to post pre-paid parcels, using Click&Drop, through postboxes in the same way they currently post letters.
The first phase of the launch will see pre-existing meter postboxes, which includes a wider aperture and secure design for mailing larger items, converted to accept small and medium-sized parcels.
There are four meter postboxes in the constituency that will now be converted. These are at:
- Hornchurch Delivery Office, RM12 4AZ
- Elm Park Avenue, RM12 4SD
- Upminster Delivery Office, RM14 2AS
- Faringdon Road, RM3 8SP
This positive news follows the regrettable decision that I was advised of last week that the Hornchurch High Street branch of the Post Office is to close - click here to read the full story posted earlier on my website.
Following the closure, the area will be served by three alternative branches, all located within one mile of the current location, including North Street Post Office (0.3miles away – open 7 days a week), Station Lane Post Office (0.3 miles away) and Minster Lane Post Office (0.7 miles away – open 7 days a week).
