Julia Lopez MP has welcomed confirmation that Transport for London is finally now engaging directly with the Valuation Office Agency to support assessments of any business rates reduction claims from local firms hit by Gallows Corner disruption.
Following representations from Julia on multiple occasions during wider discussions on the delays to Gallows Corner, the Deputy Mayor for Transport has confirmed that TfL is speaking with the VOA to understand how they can assist with the evidence required for any Material Change in Circumstances claims. The move comes following an insistence from Mrs Lopez that TfL contact the VOA.
While TfL confirmed that businesses will still need to contact the VOA themselves if they wish to seek a reduction, TfL’s representations to the VOA marks a positive step in getting support for businesses affected by the delays.
TfL committed to further updates, continuity messaging and assisted delivery arrangements, alongside ongoing engagement with Havering Council and local stakeholders as appropriate.
The works which were initially expected to finish in early September are now more than two months overdue and are expected to complete in the spring of 2026.
Julia will continue to pursue support for affected firms throughout the project, as well as further update from TfL on future timelines for completion of the project.
