Essex & Suffolk Water has confirmed that its work at Gallows Corner is complete and that the site will be handed back to Transport for London on 31 August.
The handover meets the commitment made by the water company in July and marks the beginning of the final stage of the wider flyover renewal programme.
Responsibility for completing the scheme will now rest with TfL. The remaining work is expected to include the final reinstatement and resurfacing required before the junction can fully reopen.
Julia Lopez MP has called on TfL to move quickly and publish a clear timetable setting out the remaining stages of the project and the earliest possible reopening date.
The Hornchurch and Upminster MP has repeatedly raised concerns about the impact of the prolonged disruption on residents, local businesses and motorists using one of east London’s busiest junctions.
Mrs Lopez said:
“Essex & Suffolk Water has now completed its work and will hand the site back on 31 August, in line with the commitment it made in July.
“Responsibility for completing the wider flyover renewal now rests squarely with TfL. It must move quickly to finish the remaining reinstatement and resurfacing work so that Gallows Corner can fully reopen.
“After such prolonged disruption for residents, businesses and motorists, there can be no further unnecessary delays. I am pressing TfL to provide a clear timetable, regular progress updates and confirmation of the earliest possible reopening date.
“The pressure is now firmly on TfL and the Mayor to deliver.”
