I know that the coronavirus pandemic has had an extraordinary impact on peoples’ livelihoods and wellbeing, which is why I welcome the unprecedented and broad range of support provided by the government.
In statistics released today, over 14,100 workers in Hornchurch and Upminster have been furloughed through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
The Treasury has supported 6,000 self-employed works through the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme.
I am pleased that for figures up to 2 August, over 2,200 local businesses have been supported through offers of government backed Bounce Back Loans, whilst separately supporting local businesses through offers of 88 government-backed Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme facilities.
592 local businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sector and 11 nurseries that will pay no business rates at all this year.
Finally, over 1000 local businesses have received cash grants of up to £25,000.

I am delighted that local businesses and residents have been supported by the government, which has done the right thing to help everyone throughout this pandemic. I know that the government will continue to support everyone in my constituency as we come out through the other side of this extraordinary period.
