With money secured for a new health centre in Hornchurch, we recently met the NHS team managing the project in parliament to push for its fast delivery.
The new health centre will be on the former St George’s Hospital site on Suttons Lane, and we were excited to see the range of health facilities that the NHS intend to base there. Once it’s built, the St George’s NHS Hub will be critical to reducing pressure on Queen’s Hospital and ensuring social and health care services work better together.
We discussed the timeline for the project’s delivery, how we can help the NHS remove any obstacles along the way and how best to involve local people in the kinds of facilities that are most needed. Given the site’s size, there may be opportunities to base other services there too and we are particularly keen to accommodate better special educational needs (SEN) facilities there.
We will continue to be actively engaged in pushing this project forward and in delivering it at as soon as possible, in line with the pledge we made in our local manifesto. As we can, we shall share more updates.
